Now, when I look back, I can see very clearly how I have evolved over the years, together with FITT and the people who work in this organization. From a shy boy, sometimes timid, afraid of the unknown and alienated from his environment, I have become a better man, aware of what is going on around me, open and active, willing to put effort into things that matter and happy, more often than not, to be able to take part in activities without which I would not have been able to understand certain aspects of life.
I could start by writing about the circumstances that brought me closer to FITT, but I would prefer instead to write about an action, in particular, through which I was able to realize how important the act of volunteering is, in fact, done benevolently, therefore, in the absence of any drive that could be considered selfish.
I don’t remember the exact date and I don’t consider it necessary to say so. I know that it was summer, because I still remember the scorching heat that had hit Timișoara. Coming back to the action itself, I played a minor role, but it was not without importance or responsibility. I worked on the logistical side of the event and I realized that each role, although it may seem insignificant at first, becomes an active element when seen as a whole, and the effort made by each element contributes to the smooth running of the event.
I had the opportunity and the chance to work with a wonderful team of volunteers and I have come to appreciate the efforts of each and every one of them. I learned from the event, beyond the memories that will stay with me forever, not only social and language skills, but also the experience I gained through teamwork, coordination, building new connections with nice and dedicated people.
Thus, following the event, I got even closer to people who are passionate about creating communities and leaving a lasting footprint on the environment in which they operate. From there, although it was probably hidden somewhere inside me, was the passion to create beautiful moments for those around me and to give as much of myself as I can to others.
